Did you know that digital wedding photography is one of the major sources of income for most photography studios and freelance photographers? A wedding photographer will need to be skillful in making both candid shots and posed shots. He should also be good with making slideshows and slides which can be viewed during the reception, taking shots indoors while the wedding is on-going and also taking outdoor shots so that the reception can be covered.

Digital wedding photography also involves the creation of “proofs” for the couple to view. Proofs are usually in the form of thumbprints and couples can choose which shots are for printing and which ones will be stored on a CD. With the internet today, some photographers sell additional prints to a couple through a website.

At present times, digital wedding photography is no longer just about taking pictures during the wedding and the reception. A lot of couples today choose to have prenuptial photos which are usually shot in locations which are memorable for the couple. Most of these pictures serve to capture the happy moments before the couple become officially become husband and wife.

In the US, the field of digital wedding photography is such a big business that there are already a couple of organizations such as The Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) and the Wedding Photojournalists Association (WPA) which provides training, support and tips to members.
