Tips to Plan Your Wedding
Friday, October 31st, 2008 By Lenox

Whether you are having a large ceremony or a small one wedding, planning is a difficult ordeal for the unprepared. There are so many things to consider, from colors and themes to food and music. For many of us it can become overwhelming without the benefit of a plan and help. I’m sure you have scoured the internet and all the local book stores getting ideas on how to plan your blessed event, but with all the sites and books it can seem like information overload at times.

The very first thing you have to do is to remember that you need to take it one step at a time. You need to decide the simple things first. Outlining a budget is always the best way to start. Once you know how much you can spend the rest will be simpler. Having a budget helps you decide if you will be having a Photographer take your pictures or if a friend is going to do it for you. DJ’s, florists, hairstylists, and even the invitations can be narrowed down just by having a budget.

Once you have decided on your budget you need to use the resources at hand to make your life easier. It can be difficult to find all the different types of places that handle weddings. You need to find someone to handle music, food, pictures and video, transportation, the wedding cake, decorations, etc. There are limitless resources to do this but with all you have to do sometimes it can just be too much. You could do it all alone and do just fine but why should you. Your wedding is a wonderful day and the planning can be so fun for all involved. If you feel yourself becoming overwhelmed one easy and fun solution is to contact close family and friends and ask for their help. You can ask several people to help you compile a list of different things you need for your wedding. If each person takes one item from your list, such as, the bride’s mother looking at different places to get your wedding cake and the mother of the groom looking at caterers for the reception dinner; you can have a small list to review instead of an entire phone book of companies to call.

Choose a day to sit down and go over all of the lists, asking opinions of everyone who helped you on each item. Then you can take their information and make your own contacts. A list of 5 DJ’s or bands will be far easier to preview then a list of 50.

From there you just need to get bride and groom together to make the final choices. Many of the companies that handle weddings have very flexible hours and will accommodate your schedule. If you can only go during the week after 5pm to do your cake tasting then feel free to ask the bakery if they can meet you when is convenient for you, 9 times out of 10 you will find that they will be glad to help.

Just remember that this is a wonderful event and should be a great deal of fun. Make it all your own because it is a day you will never forget.
